BLVD Gallery is proud to present the work of Oakland based artist Bigfoot. Bigfoot is a Bay area Graffiti legend and has been a major influence in the skateboard industry for close to a decade. Originally from New Jersey ,young Bigfoot fled to California to be closer to big trees . Disassociated from art school and human society, in 1994 he started writing “Bigfoot” in the streets of San Francisco with relentless fury .Working often with house paint and wooden panels ,his work depicts the conflict between the respect for nature held by the artist’s cast of Bigfoot characters and the destructive agenda of mankind. Despite his reclusive nature, Bigfoot has managed to stay active in society ,designing skateboard graphics and footwear ,showing in galleries in America and Japan, and the release of his vinyl figure with Strangeco in 2004. His eponymous character and his love of heavy metal play a major role in his studio work as well as his highly recognized street art. Please join us at his opening reception Friday June 13 to Meet the artist and Ride the Lightning.

BLVD Gallery is proud to present new works from NYC Graffiti Legend Ghost a/k/a Cousin Frank, a pioneering influence for many graffiti artists around the world. Having started writing in the golden age of the late 1970’s, Ghost has first hand knowledge of the many adventures and accomplishments of the NYC subway graffiti movement. The original style, vibrant color combinations, and strong sense of satire of his graffiti has managed to ease the transition naturally to his more gallery oriented pursuits.
Ghost has spent many years dedicated to the formation ( or deformation ) of the standard English alphabet creating limitless possibilities for him to subvert the language in his unique style. He has managed to create work that bears the unmistakable mark of an accomplished draughtsman without it being either overbearing or overwrought. The humor that permeates Ghosts’ work comes from the underground comics tradition from his youth, more Zapp! Comix than Marvel. Ghosts’ improvisational approach to graffiti, he never planned ahead what his work would be like, gives his current series of paintings a lightness and spontaneity that has the feeling of an inside joke between old friends.
Ghost has shown his work in galleries across the globe and has become a major part of the visual aesthetic of companies like respected streetwear brand Stussy. There is also a documentary in production chronicling the many contributions Ghost has made to the global graffiti movement. This show will be the second time that BLVD Gallery has been privileged to work with Ghost whose amazing mural in the “Claimin’ Space” exhibition was a highlight for many at the 2007 Bumbershoot arts festival.

Blvd Gallery is proud to present New work and installation by Parskid and Chip 7.
“Wastelands and Wilderness” explores the worlds and characters created
by Parskid and Chip7. Two rising stars in the urban contemporary
art scene.

Parskid
parskid

Parskid’s work focuses on his interests in dark rituals,
mythology, sacrifice and spirituality in a world of lush forests and
natural surroundings. This is greatly influenced by the forests of the
Pacific Northwest where he works and lives. Parskid’s painting style
utilizes a unique detailed way of painting only with spray paint by
using various techniques of masking, stencils and brushwork. His work
has been exhibited in many cities in the United States including LA
and NYC and abroad in Australia, Taiwan, Spain and the UK. His work
has been published in the following magazines: Hi-Frustose, King
Brown, Overspray, Art Prostitute, Cool’eh, Novum, Beautiful/Decay, Day
in the Lyfe, and Dirty Soup as well as published books, Dot Dot Dash,
Canceled Flight, War of Monstars, Pictoplasma 2 and Monstaah!. Parskid characters are no strangers to the streets of Seattle and freight train lines of the United States.

Chip7, also with a background in freight train art and graffiti hails from the opposite side of the US. His work explores brightly colored confessions of a clutter brain through science fiction psychedelic fantasy. Chip7 was trying to paint pretty much everything he could shake a stick at around industrial New Jersey, and where ever the wind took him.Years of painting got him some wonderful memories and adventures, people who hate him, like him, and his work in a few books. Fun and some legal problems go hand and hand. His studio work deals with a range of sources including memories anddreams. Subjects range from both personal and historical using a range
of materials including found printed matter collage, animation cel
paint, oils, and spray paint. While his nickname remains there are no
silver block letters being painted on canvas, and he can no longer be
found in the layup all weekend. The ensemble cast that are scattered
across the many layers, and shapes of his work range from his own
creations of eyeball droids, and neon monsters to a few cameos by
Asian heroes inspired by his time living in South East Asia. The semi
obsessive ”paranoid” nature of his current work also deals with
theories of global commotion, and catastrophe of the past, present, and possible near future in a somewhat playful manner.

The interactive nature of this joint effort between Chip7 and Parskid will include the use of chromadepth glasses technology to increase the visual experience of the viewer. Their two worlds collide, a technological future and a natural primitive land that become a unified place never before seen. With similar themes in their work but
a different view of each of their worlds these artists have come
together to create a unique experience for the viewer.
